March is Women’s History Month and I decided to keep up the tradition of writing about #amazingsororitywomen each day of the month. Because I know March is not my own, I have been trying to get the 31 posts done ahead of time (26 NPC, 4 NPHC and a P.E.O.). I have a list of the women I hope to profile; I haven’t decided on a Pi Phi to highlight, in the spirit of a cobbler’s children not having shoes. I am excited about the women I’ve chosen and I hope you will check back each day in March to learn about these amazing women who wear badges.
Who are some of the women I will write about? One became a lawyer in the early 1900s. Another was a Olympian when women had few opportunities to hone their athletic skills. Another writes mysteries and one of her characters is a sorority woman. Another had a hand in the founding of one the premier arts and crafts schools. Included in the list are an astronaut, an Army officer, and two who have started nationwide non-profit organizations.
The past classes of #amazingsororitywomen are on the right side of this page, in case you haven’t explored these posts, please do.
As I was researching I came across this quote from a woman in her nineties and it touched me because the incident this woman was talking about happened more than 65 years ago and it still had profound meaning for her:
She was graduating from college, and she said she wanted to thank me because she knew how much I cared and how much her success would mean to me….A note like that is pretty special.
Wouldn’t Women’s History Month be a great time to write a note to a person who has touched your life? In addition to writing these 31 profiles before the change of the calendar from February to March, I plan to do just that. Join me in honoring some of the amazing fraternity men and women who have had an impact on your life.
