DeAnna Price and I have something in common. We’re both Salukis and have diplomas from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. But she’s an Olympian, too. This picture was part of a gif posted by SIU Track and Field on the twitter feed this morning. It spoke to my heart.
Amber Campbell is a Zeta Phi Beta. She’s about 10 years older than Price. Campbell graduated from Coastal Carolina University. This was her third Olympic competition. They both made it to the final competition and are the first Team USA women to make it to the top-8 in the 16 years that the event has been an Olympic sport. Congratulations! Campbell placed sixth with a throw of 72.74m. Price was eighth with a throw of 70.95m.

More Olympic connections. The previous post noted that Debbie Phelps, mom of swimmer extraordinare Michael Phelps, is a Phi Mu. Well here is the other part of the story I failed to mention. Debbie’s daughters, Michael’s sisters, Hilary and Whitney, are Phi Mus, too. They were initiated at the 2010 Phi Mu convention. They are pictured on the cover of Phi Mu’s magazine.

It was also brought to my attention that Mary Gen Ledecky, Katie’s mom, is a Pi Beta Phi, as is golfer Matt Kuchar’s mom.
